Raising Awareness on Drugs and Responsible Use of Social Media


As part of the B.Ed. curriculum, Fathima Memorial Training College, Mylapore, Kollam, organized a Conscientization Programme on “Raising Awareness on Drugs and Responsible Use of Social Media.” The programme was conducted for the students of AKM Higher Secondary School, Mylapore, with the participation of students from Classes VIII and IX.
The primary objective of the programme was to create awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse and to promote the safe, responsible, and ethical use of social media among adolescents. The programme aimed to guide students in making informed and positive life choices.
The programme began with a prayer, followed by a welcome address and an anchoring session that introduced the theme of the programme and the resource person. The session was led by Sri. M. Muhammed Shafeek N.S., Senior Police Officer, Narcotics Cell and Cyber Crime Unit, Kollam City, who delivered an insightful and informative talk.
The resource person elaborated on the dangers of drug addiction, its physical, mental, and social consequences, and the growing influence of social media on young minds. He emphasized the importance of self-control, awareness, and responsible behaviour, encouraging students to avoid negative habits and misuse of digital platforms.
Students listened attentively and interacted actively during the session. Refreshments were provided during the break, creating a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks, expressing sincere appreciation to the resource person, teachers, and students for their cooperation and enthusiastic participation.
Overall, the Conscientization Programme was highly successful. It helped students understand the importance of a healthy lifestyle, avoidance of harmful habits, and responsible use of social media. The programme created a lasting impact by motivating students to become more aware, disciplined, and responsible individuals.
